In VFP6-8 I was able to use labels.reg along with labels.dbf/fpt to register default Avery label layouts. Then when I issue the command "Modify Label MyNewLabel" a window would open that allowed me to select from the registered list of Avery labels.

This doesn't seem to be an option with VFP9. I get the message "No Label Layouts Found". Is there a new way to easily create labels for standard Avery label forms in VFP9?

Thanks

If you SET REPORTBEHAVIOR 80 everything should work as before.

Bye, Olaf.

Olaf,

That does affect some of the report functions but does not work to fix my problem.

I still get the message "No Label Layouts Fould" But if I open VFP8 and type the same command it opens the screen to select the Avery formats??

The term Avery formats is new to me. Did you install a plugin, third-party component to VFP8? Then you need to do that in VFP9 again. I don't think it's native VFP functionality, not even in VFP8.

Bye, Olaf.

The label.dbf contains Avery labels specs. Its in VFP9 root directory.

Unless your label.dbf is corrupted:
Modify label mylabel
still opens a window with the "choose layout..

Actually I am not sure if it is 3rd party software. I thought it came from Microsoft, but it was too long ago to remember. I do remember that I got new files when I upgraded from VFP6 to VFP8.

There are 3 files LABELS.DBF, LABELS.FPT and LABELS.REG. They must be registered with this RUN command to work "C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedt32 labels.reg"

I notice that in the labels.reg file there is a reference to VFP8:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\8.0\Labels]

so that is likely the problem, but I am not that sharp on Window Registry so don't know if there is a fix.

Thanks for the help.

Emmalu;
I dont see a lables.reg in vfp9 sp2, nor do I ever remember ever registering it... Maybe VFP9 install did it for me...

Labels.reg - Bingo! I find a labels.reg in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\Tools\AddLabel

Double click the labels.reg file, allow Windows to regsiter it's stuff and you get back your label selection dialog when you create a new label.

Bye, Olaf.

Olaf; strange I have Never registered the label.reg. Never even knew of its existence. Yet when I put in
Modify label mylabel
the little window opens for me.
In vfp9 does it automatically register?

Thanks Olaf, that was the answer. Its working great now!

Imaginecorp,

No, VFP9 does not automatically register this. I didn't get that dialog when creating a new label so far.

Bye, Olaf.

Olaf;
Like I have always suspected, there are little gremlins in all three of my computers that like me {lol}
Though on further checking I see Label.dbf, label.fpt in the root of VFP9 AND label.dbf, label.fpt and label.reg in Tools\addlabel\ .... strange.
Well anyway thanks to you, learnt how to avoid a future problem. Thanks

I also see the label TABLE being duplicated in Home() and the Addlabel directory. This seems to be a flaw of the VFP98 setup then, if it's not by design. Could be both of you had done this manually, I newver saw such a selection of predefined labels, also not within VFP7 or 6, so I'd say this is a step you always needed to do manually, but you simply forgot that you had to...

Maybe someone else might verify, how different VFP versions behave directly after install. At least I assume those Avery labels are rather specific to the US market, in germany the typical brand for labels is "Zweckform".

I would assume not registering it by default was at least removed since there where no regional versions of VFP anymore, so maybe since VFP8. I wonder about the double installation of the table. And I haven't looked into it in detail, but as the predialog for new labels only seems to care for registry keys, that table also seems rather useless anyway, if I don't misinterpret it.

Maybe one should search for further .reg files within the Home() Dir to register other features....Ah, there...vfp10.reg

Just kidding...

Bye, Olaf.
