We have some proposals for Avaya, and Shortel. Currently, we have a Norstar MCIS, so the Avaya quote looks more palatable, because we can re-use our current phones. However, I have heard, and read this post http://insidecti.com/wordpress/news/report-claims-avaya-on-path-to-implosion/ which has me questioning Avaya as a company.

What is the consensus on Avaya as a company? We certainly don't want to go with a company that puts us right back where we are now with Nortel. I've also heard anecdotal evidence that Avaya's support leaves a bit to be desired.

Many thanks,

Bruce

if it does implode, some sucker will by the good bits and keep it going.

besides, Avaya SME are rapidly moving away from hardware to software - i.e IP1000 and handsets are already subbed out to third party vendors.

Bruce,

You also have the choice of looking at the Emetrotel UCX designed by former Nortel engineers who now work for Emetrotel. It allows you to reuse all of your digital phones and upgrade to Nortel Unistim or Nortel SIP or 3rd party SIP phones.....

I like IP Office, but I also like my customers to be happy and sometimes they prefer the Emetrotel solution.

Just saying....

Hard to believe I live in a warehouse in Chicago that was Western Electrics first warehouse....Clinton Street Warehouse.....now the company is Avaya! crazy!

As a technician, I prefer to value companies based on their technology rather than what Wall Street thinks. Unfortunately, I don't get to control the world in that way. That said, I'd take a look at Avaya's history, their quarterly reports and their reputation in general. While I agree that ShoreTel looked sketchy for a moment, I think they know more about voice that even Cisco does. But who beats Cisco and ShoreTel six days a week and twice on Sunday? Avaya. Their IP Office has definitely come to fruition.
