We have an Avaya Prologix system using an Octel 100 voicemail system in Fort Madison, Iowa. They are having trouble with the message indicator. Avaya has checked out the PBX but they do not support the Octel. Does anyone know of a vendor in or near Fort Madison that will work on an Octel 100 voicemail system? Thanks for any help on this.

Do you know if there is a phone line connected to the modem? If so I could possibly help. The company I work for is not located near Iowa, but we could possibly walk you through some things. Also, you don't mention what type of message indicator problem you are having, but normally there is 1 port setup to do the message light activation. Maybe that port does not have dial tone or is not functioning.

Please make sure that it is an OCTEL 100 and not a VMX-100.
Support can still be found for VMX-100.

Best regards doktor

Yes, Doktor makes a good point. The VMX100 is a system that would usually mount on the wall. The Octel 100 is a desktop PC running IBM OS Warp4.

Did the lights ever work correctly?
Is it just one station that the light is not correct?
Has the Octel been rebooted gracefully?
It is too bad that Avaya doesn't support the Octel 100, they spent tens of thousands training and doing support activity envolved on supporting the Octel 100. And the still have many technicians expert in the system on the payroll.
Kinda makes you fearful of buying anything from Avaya. Who knows when they will pull the rug out from under U.

I think the system is an Octel 100, but I'll verify. The problem with the MWL is that sometimes the light will come on when there are no messages and not come on when there are messages. This is happening to everyone at the site. Avaya has check the Prologix but found nothing wrong on that side.

ChuckRTC, to my knowledge we do not have a modem connected. We don't usually support this site other than calling the vendor, they are in Iowa and I'm in Ohio.

Orypecos, I believe the light worked correctly before, I will see if there is someone that can do a reboot. Avaya said that they would have support the Octel if it was under maintenance but since it has not been they will not even work on it for T&M. Go figure???

Please check your grounding between the systems!
If the grounding is bad or non-exixsting we have seen periodically failures on MWI (Message Waitng Indication).
Maybe let an electrician check the common grounding between the PBX and the VM system.
Best regards doktor

If the light is on with no messages then I would think that someone might be using the feature access code or button to leave a message that is lighting the light.

If the light is on with no messages you can use the message retrieval in the Prologix to determine what turned on the light:

In the Prologix you can program "Stations with System-wide Retrieval Permission" .Enter the extension that you want to retrieve the LWC messages from

On the same station, put the following buttons:

cov-msg-rt
delete-msg
next

From that extension press the cov-msg-rt button, enter the extension that has the LWC message, press next, then press the delete-msg button. This will tell you which extension turned on the light. This may help you to determine if it is a voicemail problem or not.

You can also turn the debug log on in the Octel 100 to help you track problems. It also may just be a port problem in the Octel 100. My company still supports Octel 100's so if you need help or more information let me know.
