I have an IP Office with a SG-200 at the office and a SG-5 at the house. This setup has been working fine for 5 years.

Old Set up- SG-5 Setup was a cable modem and a basic Linksys router and the phone comes right up.

New Set up- Verizon fios actiontec router MI424WR-GEN2 firmware 20.9.0 and I can't get the phone to work. I opened up all the ports on the router and still nothing. This is really killing me.. The PC works fine and its plugged in from Avaya phone to PC.. Please HELP!!!!

P.S.
His partner lives down the block with the cable modem and Linksys router and his phone works fine.

I know it’s the actiontec router but I don't know what it is.

PLEASE HELP!!

I'm not a networking expert by any means, but we have 2 IP phones running off of the IP500 at the office at our house and we have FIOS. We put in a Multi-Tech VPN router that runs behind the FIOS router...

Here's our set up if it helps you at all:

Office Router: 192.168.0.1
Actiontec router: 192.168.1.1
House router: 192.168.3.1

The house router thinks the actiontec router is the ISP, as follows:

IP assigned by your ISP: 192.168.1.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
ISP Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: uses verizon dns info

House Router:

IP address: 192.168.3.1 (IP phones are 192.168.3.6 and 3.7)
vpn settings:

local IPsec: 192.168.3.1
remote ipsec: office external ip address

remote ip network: 192.168.0.0
remote ip subnet: 255.255.255.0
remote gateway ip: office external ip address

We now have FIOS at the office, though we didn't when we first set this up. We took the actiontec router out at the office so we could set up terminal services. We only use FIOS for internet so this was an option for us. If you have TV too, you're stuck with it as it provides the channel guide.

Good luck!

Ann

Yes he does have TV so I need to use that router.

Yes, so perhaps try the set up I gave you as that is a vpn router running behind the verizon router.

But I dont understand why my cable modem and linksys router works fine.

Is your VPN working? Can you ping the office and can the office ping the house?

From what I've been able to determine, Verizon does NOT block ports.

No I can't ping the office. I have the actiontech sitting there with the Avaya SG-5 plugged into the Actiontech. Then I have the PC plugged into the Avaya phone and the PC has no problem getting out to the internet.

Check this out. When I change the port duplex on the actiontech router where I have the SG-5 plugged into the phone gets dial tone for 20 seconds then it starts discovering again. Very strange. It doesnt matter what I change the port setting to. Once I save settings the phone gets dial tone then it goes away.

Again, I'm not a networking expert by any means...but...

If you can't ping the office then your VPN isn't working.

Why don't you post back you internal IP address assignments to see if we can help you that way.

Primary mission number one is to see if the local network has changed. If it has then that is your problem since you would need new routes in IPO. Probably best to make sure that new equipment has old LAN ipaddresses.

I have the same setup and had the same problem. Internet works fine but VPN would not work. The solution is to have Verizon change the ONT to ethernet mode and run an ethernet cable from the ONT to the WAN port of your router. Then run another cat5 cable from a LAN port on your router to the WAN port on your FIOS router. You will still have the coax cable running to the actiontec since you need it to process the program guide for television. After doing this my VPN works perfectly. When you are done you will have two subnets that are fully trusted.
