Hi Guys,

Just installed 4 of the new Avaya branded T7316Es into one of our customers. They use Plantronics H251 headsets across all agents with the A10 QD cable. For some strange reason they are not working on the Avaya branded phones. They can hear callers, but callers cannot hear them. I was thinking that the headset ports may be faulty, but that seems unlikely across 4 new phones.

I know alot of the IPO phones use the HIC & HIS QD cords and I am just wondering if Avaya have changed the spec for QD cords ?

Any thoughts ? :)

I thought unlikely too!.

I just got call about 2 new Avaya T7316e's where on display it states "Need Headset".
The existing Nortel Networks branded ones work fine.
CICS 7.1

Tech believes it was Plantronics Supra with quick disconnect as well.

Did you figure this out?

Hi Curly,

Not too sure what ones we had. Basically, we deployed some new Avaya branded ones with new H251/A10-11

Could hear callers, but they could not hear us through the voice tube on the headset. However, when connected to a older Nortel branded phone that has been in use for 1-2 years the headset worked perfectly.

I never got to the bottom of it, as I was under a little pressure and just swapped the Avaya ones with other working Nortel ones.

I did do some google searching an came across a couple of articles mentioning the same problem, but no solutions.

I think Avaya may have changed something. But I cannot get anyone to confirm that for me.

Hey Curly,

Did you have any luck getting to the bottom of this ?

Plantronics says most likely wrong q cord and to try the A10 cord.
After hanging up I see there is a few A10 types though....maybe A10-16 might help but still need to sort this out.

Plantronics compatibility web site seem to indicate you need the vista plus AP15

Hey Guys,

I just opened a case with plantronics. They said this is the first they are hearing of it and they will look into it further.

I will update with more info, as I get it :)

Avaya removed the headset amplifier from the Avaya branded T-Series phones so you will now have to use an external headset amp. This is a known issue that we have had to deal with. We sell both Plantronics and Jabra headsets and now have to sell their external amplifier along with their wired headsets.

Also, the Avaya branded T-Series sets will not work at all with a MCK/Citel Gateway/Extender like the Nortel branded ones will. I had to open a case with Citel for confirmation of this.

Hey Nortel4Ever,

Thanks for the info. Have Avaya documented this any where ? Or did they do it just for kicks ?

What plantronics amps are you using ?

Don't know if this has been documented or not, but I know from talking to a friend who works for Bell Canada and who helped Avaya do some testing on the Avaya branded T-Series that it was a lot more than a cosmetic change, they re-gutted the phones too. Probably a cost saving issue and to make Avaya's own phones a lot more attractive than Avaya/Nortel phones.
