I have a pair of S8800 (HP DL360G7) servers that we recently deployed as part of our PBX upgrade. They both came with a single power supply in the chasis with a open bay for a redundant power supply to be installed if chosen to do so. I have ordered the correct power supplys and tried installing each of them in servers A and B. I can physically install them both in the chasis and I get a green power light on the back panel. The problem is that the server itself doesn't seem to like the 2nd power supply and pops up an error alarm on the front health status led. I have tried busying out the standby server (B) and taking the original power supply out of this server and placing it in the 2nd bay (slot) in the active server (A) to see what happens. At this point, I have both original power supplies in slots A and B and the error still remains on the front panel of the server. I placed one of the new power supplies by itself into the standby server (B) and rebooted and it comes up fine, which tells me the 2 new power supplies are the correct part numbers. My question is why does this particular server not recognize two power supplies? Isn't this the purpose of redundant power sources? I have checked the BIOS and there are no settings that are affecting this function. Has anyone ever came across this issue?
