Good afternoon. We are running an Avaya S8300 PBX with Communication Manager. We are trying to configure a mailbox with a class of service that plays a message then hangs up. I've tried the Bulletin Board COS, but it doesn't work the way I've just described.

I have no training on this PBX, so if there is anyone out there that can assist, I would very grateful. Thank-you.

I've found the easiest way to do this is to use a VDN/Vector/Announcement on the PBX rather than a mailbox.
Just add a VDN extension number instead of the mailbox extension.
Add an announcement extension which you'll use to record your message.
On the vector you assign to the VDN, you just have to enter:
disconnect after announcement xxxxx (your announcement number)

Not sure how you set your "bulletin board" box up but that is exactly what it does and how it operates...It will answer, give info and hang up. I would go back in and take a look at the setup of the box....

...bob...

Good morning.

What happens is that after the message plays, there is silence for a long time, then the system responds "for help press *h....
please make selection now or be disconnected..." So if you press 0, it responds that that is an invalid option, but you can start
playing around in the voice mail system at that point, which is what we don't want to happen.

We've tried changing the disconnect value, but that didn't fix it.

Here is the mailbox configuration (doesn't include everything; only what I *think* are the important items):

Class of Service: CustomCos
Switch number: 1
Community ID: 1

Addressing format: EXT
Login Announcement Set: System
Call Answer Primary Announcement Set: System
Call Answer Secondary Announcement Set: System

Permissions
Type: BulletinBoard Announcement Control: NO Outcalling: NO
Priority Message: No Broadcast: NONE MCAPI Access: NO
MCAPI Message Transfer: No Fax Creation: NO Trusted server access: NO

Incoming MB Order: FIFO, Retention Time: NEW - 10 days; Retention Time Unopened: 10 days; Category order: NUO; Retention time, old: 10

Outgoing MB Order:FIFO, Retention Time, File - 10; Category order: unfda; Delivered/Non - 5

Voice Mail Message, Max Length - 1200; Min needed - 32; Call Answer - 1200;Minimum needed - 8
End of Message Warning Time - 0; Max Mailing LIsts - 25; Mailbox Size - 8400;
Total Entries in all lists - 250; Minimum guarantee - 0

As far as creating a VDN is concerned, I have no idea of what that is or how to create one. I'm hoping that there is just a simple
change to the mailbox that will fix this. Appreciate all of your help! Thank-you very much.
