Dear People,

I am a PC tech, but I installed a few Partner 7 stand alones over the years. PACS R7.0 91J

I now have a customer who needs a few more extensions and I bought the 308ec r3 with 2-slot.
I thought this would take me 30 minutes but the 308EC gets no led light and its extension are dead when I attach phone 18D. The ACS works with no problems, by itself.

Now the supplier tells me that there are problems with the 2-slot, that it is hard to seat, which does not appear to me to be a problem, just plug it in square and it should go.

Supplier is shipping out 5 slot as this is his remedy, but I have little room for it as the initial wiring on backboard was cramped, so 2-slot would be perfect.

I also understand some ACS might have bad backplane and that would end this. Unfortunately I do not have any spare modules to test it out.

Now my 1st question is can I test the 308EC by plugging power cord directing into it and see if it at least lights up?

I do not expect anything but a led light or would this blow the unit.

2nd question is there any fuse on the 2-slot, I found mention of a surface mount fuse?

3rd Is this 2-slot really a problem, so far 3 suppliers said yes and 3 said no?

I apologize for the length of this post.

Thanks,

Oz Knott

You should be able to power up the module by plugging it directly in to power.
There is a fuse in the two slot carrier however if it blows then nothing in the carrier will work.
You could have an issue with seating a module in a "new" style 5-slot carrier and I vaguely recall an issue using the 2-slot carrier.

Its all about the carrier being a little loose therby allowing the module to rest at angles not parallel to the carrier.

good luck

Ozknott,

Have you tried a System Reset to see if it will bring up the 308EC?
From ext. 10 or 11, press Feature 00, left Intercom twice, then #728 and wait about 5 seconds for the system to reboot.

Dear People,
The 5 slot worked, no problem.

I tried the 2-slot when I had everything off board and it still would not work, it was the correct fit. I took it apart and it had only straight connections between the card edge connecting slots, same with power, no components to fail, except the traces, all solder connections were good, everything metered ok, no fuse to replace. I moved it around and still nothing, I had one work before with no issue, I am stymied on this one, but it works and 5 slot has expansion and better cooling. The 308EC's green light works now. The only reason I can guess at for not working is the card edge slots were bad as the post said or maybe there is another unit that this needs. I know the 5-slot has a fuse.

Well, I did not see the reset info before I did this, Oh well.

Thanks for the replies and good luck.

Oz
As far as plugging into the power cord direct, I did that but no light, this probably only lights when it is coconnected to processor. It did not damage the unit and is worthless as a test, as far as I can see. I did not want to open the unit and void the warranty.
