Not sure why I'm confused conceptually about this - seems simple (implementation details aside), but the only dumb question is a question left unasked, so.....

CURRENT SCENARIO:
MS Lync 2013 used for IM and Presence and integrated with Polycom Telepresence (HDX)

Avaya CM with latest software/firmware releases - no integration with Lync

DESIRED SCENARIO:
Integrate CM and Lync via Avaya Client Applications (ACA) and retain Polycom Telepresence.

Does this mean that the Polycom must move off Lync and register on the Avaya side (assumes Avaya/Polycom supported hardware/software) or can it remain on the Lync side? If it has to move to Avaya, is any significant functionality lost? If it can remain on the Lync side, same question.

I would think ACA would work fine provided you're not running a similar plugin from Polycom in your Lync clients.

It's also renamed Avaya Communicator for Microsoft Lync now.

Release notes:

I believe someone here posted a hack to let ACA still allow voice/video directly through Lync - if you needed the Lync clients to hit the Polycom rooms, but there may also have been an official implementation of that feature as well. Or else, you might have to trunk Avaya to MS/Polycom/Session Manager/etc to get them all to talk nicely together.

Thanks. Avaya seems to change product names and acronyms about as often as a criminal on the run!

If I understood you correctly - depending upon integration details - maybe the Polycom could be left on Lync, and Presence and maybe other features would work in AC, and Avaya endpoints would have access to the Polycom? On the other hand, if this didn't work, then registering it on the Avaya side as an endpoint would allow for Presence, and Lync endpoints having access from AC (through some form of integration)? AC 6.4 Release Notes show that Polycom HDX (H.323) is supported.

I did see the post you were referring to, but decided not to pursue it there to remain focused. Custom change of registry keys might not go over big here either.

Thanks again.

With the Avaya-Lync plugin, you're leveraging Avaya for voice/video and still using Lync for IM/Presence.

So, the plugin in shared control of a deskphone would still let you go offhook on the deskphone and have Lync show you "in a call" - though that integration is all done client-side on the user's PC.

The Avaya plugin will always register as H323 to CM or SIP to Session Manager.

What I was trying to say was that there could be a way to still leverage Lync's voice/video to video call from Lync client to Lync server to Polycom, otherwise, you might need to have a video-enabled H323 or SIP trunk from CM or SM to Polycom.
