I’m new to the world of IP Phones/IPPBX having never worked on this sort of equipment before but I am setting up a system for our small office and have read and researched as much Avaya information as I can to help me.

I bought several Avaya J179 Open SIP phones (700513630) that came with 3 different levels of Firmware (1.5.0.0.15, 4.0.7.1.5 and 4.0.10.1.2) between them. I have now brought them all up to firmware version 4.1.1.0.7 and configured them to work with a YeaStar S20 IPPBX which has two inbound PSTN lines.

The YeaStar does not naitively support Avaya phones so it could not be used to provision them, but I wanted the Avayas as they seem to be the go to device for a large number of businesses and there is a lot of information available for them (though I seem to have missed what I need for the queries below).

I have just run a comparison of the parameters set across all the phones to make sure they are consistent (by extracting the 46xx files from each phone using the Web UI (Management ==> Configuration ==> Export File Settings option) and have a few parameters that differ that I cannot resolve/work out where or how they have been set. I am hoping that some-one with a bit more than my 2 weeks experience can help me out.

The parameters that appear in the extract that differ between phones are:

Phone 1
FEIPADD “”
Edit Now Fixed

Phones 2, 3, 4, 5 *
AUTH_ONLY 1
MYCERT_TYPE_INUSE 3
DES_BLOCK 1

Phones 4 & 6
REUSE 1

Phone 6
EXCHANGE_AUTH_METHOD 2

* As these three are across the same 4 devices, I’m thinking they are probably related and I know there is no certificate on devises P1/P6. I’m guessing these must have existed before I did the firmware upgrade. I did not have any 46xx settings files before I did the upgrade and believe they would have been generated on the fly.

I did use a 46xxspecials file to set some parameters to what I wanted (or at least what thought I wanted them to be).

What I’d like some help with is:
[ul]
[li]what significance do these have[/li]

[li]how do I set/correct them (WEB UI fields? 46xx file? Phone UI) If WEBUI or Phone UI, the menu options would be very helpful as I have looked every-where I can without coming across them – perhaps they are derived from more than one other setting?[/li]
[li]Should the value in the table above be applied to all the phones where that is not currently the case[/li][/ul]

There is also one parameter that is exported across all the devices that looks odd to me. We are not using an exchange server nor exchange calendar with the phones so I'm not sure where this parameter comes from – subjectively it looks like its putting a hardcoded @ between a blank name and a blank domain (neither being populated as they are not required).

SET EXCHANGE_EMAIL_IN_USE @

Any/all help would be appreciated.

Avaya are not supported by the Autoprovisioning service of the YeaStar, but they can be used with the system, you just have to sort out the provisioning manually (an example which is what I have done. YeaStar do allow any Open SIP phone to connect up, its just not as simple as it would be for those in their list (I did the research before getting that IPPBX).

I'm not sure the query I have is specific to the fact the Avaya J179s are hooked up to the YeaStar, but more that a few of the parameter across the phones differ (out of about 150 params per phone).

Sorry if I've posted on the wrong place.

Just an update in case anyone else comes here in the future, I cleared the FEIPADD = "" issue by running an upload config file for just this parameter (SET FEIPADD ) i.e. I did not specify a value. As far as I have been able to establish, its an old parameter that's not relevant to the J179 and might be from an old version of firmware previously set up on the phone. Its not a listed parameter in the 4.1.1 46xxsettings.txt file. The only mention I could find about it related to H323 ( so have edited original post to strike it through.
