I have been directed to this site by a competitor of Avaya. My business is currently looking at IP Office. The competitor has told me their system is frought with problems. Avaya tells me that was in the early releases.

Most of the posts I have seen here seemed to be initial startup problems (although I saw one about losing voicemail)and all seemed to be answered by technical gurus.

Let me put it to you who have IP Office: if you had it to do over again would you sign up with Avaya or go with someone else?

Thanks!

Thats a cheap argument for a competitor. Tell me which system did they offer. Cisco, Mitel, Siemens?

All systems with a processor and operating software have bugs in it.

I now Cisco,Avaya,Tadicom and Siemens al are great systems, the only thing is what do you need for your company.
Its the best to look what feature,s you need and then you can look what brand is best for your company.

You can better look for a competitor that is listening at what your needs are then telling other systems has bugs.

Every systems has bugs the thing is, is your buisnespartner awere of it and take the right actions.

I spent My own cach on a SoE, interpret that how you will

Yes some versions of IPO firmware have had more bugs than would be desired, current releases are stable & the outstanding bugs I am aware of are not would not be noticed in most real world situations.

As per the above post, almost every piece of software will have bugs (even the web browser & operating system of the PC you are using to read this). The more sophisticated the software the more bugs it will have.

If we new the rival system someone here may be able to give a nonbiased oppinion, for example the BCM from nortel:

It is a robust system but the underlying telephoney is a Norstar Compct, this means the following limitations

3 Party Conference (IPO has 3, 64 or 2*64 depending on model.
Maximum number of DDI's (Less than 200 from memory) IPO only limited by CFG space.
Limited number of pickup groups (9 I think) IPO is limited only by available CFG space

However I wold say that the BCM implementation of IMS causes less headached from a maintainer point of view & the call center software looks better at 1st glance (i have not actualy used it so could be wrong here).

In short When used within its capabilitys the BCM is a good switch, It all depends on what is required.

I'm very pleased with the system, but I primarily do design and installation of the IP Office products. We do support other vendor products but recommend AVAYA. Not knowing what other systems you are considering, look at what forums are available for their product (this forum is a great asset). Also, check out the support at the manufacture’s web site. AVAYA offers access to all documentation, maintenance software releases and upgrade software releases at no charge.

I have installed several brands of systems and supported several post sales. I have consistently asked all of our clients the question you have brought up here. By far, the IP Office customers are far more satisfied that any other in the long run. You will want to make sure, regardless of system used, that the vendor has a quality reputation on implementation and post sales support. The vendor can make or break you.

The one vendor saying they have no bugs in their software is a lying and hardheaded, i will never buy or sell a sytem from such a company.
Avaya systems do have bugs and sometimes a lot but Avaya will be the first to admit and will fix the bugs as soon as possible.
At least they are honest to their customers and you get value for your money.

So far Avaya have not licensed or charged for (apart from a nomival fee for the physical CD)IP Office software upgrades. And remember that most of what you see here in the forums are cases where a bug has become an issue for the customer. Like most systems IP Office is sold on a huge list of features, 5% of which a particular customer might us.

I agree with most everyone else, Avaya has a good system, but your specific needs should dictate your decision (and your dollars). Seems your sales person is a bit off the mark leading you towards the problems rather then the solutions
