Avaya IP Office Indication that the Person dialed is on a Call

On the Avaya IP Office system, using Avaya 5410 phone sets, is there a way when dialing another extension and the person you are dialing to is on the phone, that you get a message or some indication that they are on the phone?

The user button would be only for one person, is there a way I can be notified that the person I am calling is on the phone no matter what extension I dial?
 
You can fudge something together with VM Pro if you have it, but nothing out the box :)

 
I'm still waiting for my GRIP for this to be implemented/responded to/not ignored, only did it 4 years ago or so :)

 
I have made a grip request for this. last I saw it was submitted to BU and i have gotten no updates on it. Made the request Sept 2014. How hard can it be to do this? This is a painful missing feature when you have replaced a Nortel.
 
remove all but 2 Call appearance keys from the handset (on later releases of firmware you can remove all of them)
Enable Busy Last CA.

when user is on phone calls will ether go to VM or give Busy tone

Simples :)

Appearance keys (Of all types) cause more problems than they solve

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
 
Seems they forgot about their GRIP SLA policy

Service Level Agreements (SLA) monitored at every stage with an overall SLA of 35 days from request to disposition by the Business Unit.

Looks like only requests guaranteeing a formidable increase in revenues goes into production.
(Tried GRIP'ing custom ring tones for IP 16xx in 2010 -> Still open.)

You need to say that they will make millions on your GRIP =)
Last time my GRIP got stuck in BU for over a year until I whined to my Account Manager, then they declined it.

My new is has only been at RSM for 2 months so guess I shouldn't complain even though it should take 7 days for them to respond.
