I have an Avaya IP Office 8.1 with VM Pro. 80+ IP phones connected to Avaya POE switches. Data a voice are kept separate for the most part.

We have noticed intermittently that incoming calls cut out. Even some voice mail recordings record the clipping.

Anyone have any suggestions?

trunks are SIP or PRI? If they are analog then good luck because IP phones and analog trunks can take you weeks to get working 100% if ever.
If SIP I would look into the trunks more than into the phones or network if it is PRI's then check if your internal codec is g.711 like it would want to use on a PRI and if not then make it g.711 so that the VCM channels are not used as much with transcoding.

Sorry for not saying. I have 2 PRI's.

I have confirmed G.711 is the top selected under my Codecs tab of my System page.

Do you have clipping on internal calls?

This site does very little internal dialing. I have never had a report of issues with internal calls.

I suspect that the clipping could be caused by the lines.

All switchports set to Auto?

You need to rule out the network, would be easiest by verifying that it doesn't occur on internal calls.
Do you know if both ends hear the clipping or is it just one-way?

Both ends hear choppy.
I'm checking the switch ports to see if anything has changed. Auto was what was set when we configured them.

Do you get any alarms on the PRI trunks in System Status?

Can you test if it only occurs on one of the PRI trunks or both?
It could also be that only even or uneven linenumbers on the trunks are affected if it's a trunk issue.

Also are they "real" PRI trunks or SIP converted?

They are true PRI's,
No truck alarms.
The issue is too intermittent to isolate to one PRI or the other.

You could give them a Stamp Log button and have them stamp a few times it happens while having Monitor running, that might narrow it down.
