Good morning,

I'm in the project of changing all my Telephoy infrastructure and we've break down to 5 potential solution. Genesys, Aastra, Aspect, Interactive Intelligence or Avaya.

When I purchased my Avaya IP 1140E phone from my reseller, couple years ago, I was told that those IP phone were compatible SIP and no mater what solution I would go, I'll be able to reuse them with the SIP firmware.

I know that I won't have all functionnality with another provider for the 1140E but I would love to test what work and what doesn't and see if we can use them.

However, Avaya are telling me that I can't plus my IP phone to another Phone system provider without paying licenses.

Is it true? Does anyone experience a switch over from Avaya CS1000E5.5 to another provider?

I know it's intelligence property from Avaya but does someone else wrote a generic SIP firmware for the 1140E that would make me able to use my investment in my new system?

Ok, If I stay with Avaya I won't have this issue but I must look all option.

Feel free to give me your comments on any solution I'm looking (Genesys, Aasatra, Aspect, Interactive Intelligence and Avaya) or if you had any experience with the 1140E phone with another SIP phone system.

Thank you for your help,

Sylric

"Work is like an adventure. You have to fullfill goal to progress in your journey.

The UCx from E Metro Tel will use all the Nortel IP sets. Their licensing structure is different than AVAYA and others and based more on system size and number of sets. I think they would be a good place to post or contact fpr more info.

If its not working, get a bigger hammer!

Some charge for "3rd Party" SIP phones, other don't, you have to ask the NEW vendor, don't listen to Avaya as they do pump out a lot of FUD when it comes to looking at other phones systems.
Mitel, don't charge, but you will loose some functionality, the extra's you may be used to, but the basics should still work.
From Wiki:
In 2009 a firmware upgrade was made available to allow the phone to function on the SIP protocol. This meant that the phone could now be used with a wide variety of PBX systems including those produced by Nortel, Avaya and even open source PBX systems such as the Asterisk operating system.
Also as a side note, Aastra have been bought out my Mitel.
Also do a due diligence on the financials of any company you are looking at purchasing from.....
