Hi,

I currently have a number of Avaya 9611G handsets that keep rebooting. This has started since setting up the IP Office system to work over VLANs. The handsets in question seem to not be able to communicate over the VLAN. We have a windows DHCP server using the 242 options as shown below

MCIPADD=192.168.43.1,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=10.0.1.2,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=10,VLANTEST=60

There isn't a pattern to the handsets that have this issue. We have two handsets sitting next to each other that are connected to the same switch. One works fine on the VLAN and the other is on a continuous reboot.

We have a temporary fix in place at the moment. If we clear the settings on the handset a number of times and then use a static IP address and VLAN then the handset eventually comes up on the correct VLAN. We have around 120 handsets and I'm worried that over time we might see this happening to more of them.

Thanks in advance

Almost certainly a network issue & the handsets are not correctly getting the DHCP responses they require.
if your Data switches have been correctly configured then the option242 should not be needed as the handsets will locate the correct Vlan using lldp & obtain their information from the IP office LAN interface (provided that has DHCP enabled).

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Do you have the option 242 on the data vlan as well?
L2QVLAN=10, VLANTEST=60

Apologies for the late reply.

This issue has been resolved by turning of LLDP on the Avaya switches

Which probably means that the LLDP parameters are not configured correctly.

or DHCP, if you wanna use DHCP but it isn't configured correctly it will try LLDP

I give some pink here for the resolution information.

I hate LLDP idling along in switches if it is not used to actually assign the VLAN's to the phones.

Thanks for the pink star :)

I believe that the DHCP configuration were correct. After disabling LLDP on the switches and making no further changes to DHCP after this everything is working well. The Avaya switches have default LLDP settings. I'm unusre what these are.

My phones would boot up and get DHCP settings from our default VLAN and then would restart in our Voice VLAN and this is where the problem started. They would keep rebooting in Voice VLAN. As soon as LLDP was disabled on the switches the phones started working with no issues. It has been a number of weeks now and no more issues have been encountered

Thanks for your help
