I'm about to deploy a few 4800 and I'll be connecting one stack to another stack and will be using 10Gig GBIC's. It's part number AA1403015-E6 and the pricing is around $600 per GBIC. That's pretty much the most inflated price out there of all GBIC's on the market.

My question is - what happens if I used a third party GBIC? Will it work or will the switch just spit it out and alarm on it? I see all over the internet "compatible" GBIC's for a lot less. I know Avaya's stance on it - but they are going to have to learn to deal with people not wanting to pay their outrageous price. Even Cisco will accept compatible GBIC's - so should Avaya if they want to compete in the same space.
