Gentlemen,

Today I went to the Avaya presentation in Detroit.

Avaya is giving up on phone systems. Altogether. (Well, they'll sell you a SIP gateway for your current system, whether it's an Avaya system or not)

SIP trunking is the future, but most of MY customers still use POTS...

VOIP to the desktop will have issues until the customer is willing to buy into applications of the like that Avaya sells.

Any tell on who is the best manufacturer in the market? I want the best for my small business owners, as I'm sure you do...

I refuse to believe that....specialy after the "Road map" they just laid out for Nortel vendors and users.
I know AT&T has told the CRTC that they plan on getting rid of POTS and start to use SIP instead.....sounds like Avaya wants a piece of the action and will provide SIP lines now like Vonage?.

Not sure what you mean by the best, you mean in voip systems?
We use Allworx for the smaller systems

and Fireworx for the big boys

For sets...Polycom, nothing sounds better.

I know what they've advertised as their "going forward" plan... They do say they'll 'support' Nortel product for 6 years from now.

Other than that, they plan to make all non-sip product obselete very soon. Including their own Avaya hardware. From Nov 2010 and on, their flagship product will be Avaya Aura. Period.

I'm looking at the Panasonic hybrid KSU to give my customers an alternative.

Well they said that when BCM is no longer they would take its features and put them with/into IP Office.

I am starting to think they are full of crap lol.

Panasonic is our other seller too.

I'm starting to steer my customers towards Allworx. If they are dead-set on Nortel, I will still do that. Rik - where are you in Michigan? I'm over in Grand Rapids.

Why would Avaya buy a company, a financially struggling company I might add, for millions of dollars, when the plan was.... discontinue products they sell currently, as well as the products just acquired from their former competition? It makes no sense from a business standpoint.

If this was a publicly traded company I would understand.

Market share.

In the day, a Nortel phone was sitting on 80% of receptionists' desks. Remember what they did to Ocatel.

Their goal is to put an Aura SIP phone in every jack, and eliminate phone systems altogether. That doesn't make them evil. They're even going to md their own IP Office system before too long.

ptstech- I'm in Jackson. Do you work for Moss? Tell Dave Taylor I said hi.

Curly,

I remember you saying you're somewhere around Toronto. I'm from north of the border, too. My family is all over Ontario, Toronto included. None of them are techs, though, so I can't get an accurate answer from them. Now that Nortel is gone, what are people plugging into their phone jacks?

You said you were pushing Panasonic...

Rik - I actually own my own company (with another guy). What IP solution do you sell/work-on?

Used to be ESI, but I'm shopping around there, too. I've looked at CudaTel, and some others, but they all seem a little overpriced for the customers in MI.

Market share is week. Their going to p*ss off alot of people who like installing Nortel, as well as customers who have recently switched to Nortel. I would like to see the roadmap as curly stated because Im a big fan of the BCM product. F avaya if they kill the BCM.

The "roadmap" is pretty straight. Existing products (Nortel and Avaya) will be sold until 1/11. They will be "supported" until 1/17. What THAT means, I don't know. Even face to face, the Avaya reps weren't clear...

After that, Avaya Aura is God.
