We have a customer on MPLS, they have numerous Avaya 3500 switches but we have one that for some reason drops its ability to pass traffic (if that is correct term).
it is configure the same as other switches on same version software etc.
It has VLANs created, one of which is a data VLAN which routes to the router.
When the switch has a drop out if the end user sets his GW to be the router he is able to get external traffic (even though patched to the switch)
Storm control is not active so this is not dropping the data.
All VLANS are affected.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this? at first we thought about broadcast traffic getting too high and freezing the switch. but this doesn't explain how you can then manually set the GW and still pass traffic through the switch.
The log file does show frequent issues of "link down for port x" and it is the same port, but the customer has removed this device when down and the switch didn't come back up.
it will return itself after a certain amount of time, (10 - 30 mins) or a reboot brings everything back up.
It has been swapped out recently but this didn't solve the issue.
