Attempting to configure a new Avaya ERS for use with an IP Office. The EDM interface is quite daunting compared with Adtrans which I am accustomed to using. I have all the PDFs from the support site open at this moment. There is a command available in the CLI "run ip office verbose" that will set up the switch for Avaya IP Phones including voice and data vlans, ip addressing, gateways, mask, etc., but it also converts port 1 to a voice vlan port and port 2 to a data vlan port which would be useful on one switch but not several. I could run it and then change those ports on the additional switches. Could only find Sales classes at Avaya U. Anyone played with these switches yet?

How do these Ports show up when you have a look at them?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I thought "run ip office verbose" would create two vlans (voice and data)and assign them to every port. It would also give you the opportunity to fillin all of your network information -default gateway, subnetmask, vlan ID's and IP Office IP. never used it - normally just configure them manually but that was my understanding of how the command works. The 3500 if im not mistaken have the ability to stack and if so then if you wanted to push this config out to the rest of the switches in the stack simply stack them with the cables and let it fly..

Also as far as I know when your switches are stacked they will be shown as one big switch in the config. So therefore I would imagine it would treat them as one switch for the changes it makes.

Yes we have VoIP in Cape Town

you will need s/w 5.0.1 on them to run the ipoffice commands. The ones I got delivered last week needed upgrading (s/w and manual for this on support.avaya.com).

Stacking is not yet available on these. I believe this will be later in the year on software 5.1 (according to Scansource).

the ipoffice command should put swicth port 1 on the voice VLAN, port 2 in the data VLAN, and the others for use in both. Not sure if you can change which ports are set when using the verbose command as I haven't actually run yet, but it's only a little change away in the EDM.

That sounds promissing, i know devices that don't do what they should do :)
This would be lovely for a job that is coming in a little while.
Do you know if it will recognize an IPDect base station?
I know that the 2500 does see the firmware of the 9608.

Never looked. We run a 2500 in house.

Take a look at the port status and you will see it.
We have one running but the base station is on a HP.
When i have time then i will try it but time is rare at the moment.

I have downloaded all the files from Avaya Support - which of these is the correct upgrade for a 3526T-pwr?
Out of the box, the boot image show as "Unit 1 Software Image version: 5.0.0.008".
The download includes - 3500_1006_diag, 3500_poe_410B4 (bin files);3500_501006(img file); and a sha1 and md5 file.
I am used to having less options :)

You will need the img and diag file as far as i know.
If i remember well you need to run the diag file first and then the img file.

Thanks to all for the replies. Had a call with an Avaya network Engineer who was very helpful walking me through the set up, navigating through the EDM and CLI. I could have run the CLI command "run ip office verbose" to set up the switch but I actually learned way more with his help - Stars to you Leo. I did have to load the diag file first and then the image file.
Was also glad to see that out of the box, QOS is set up favorably for Avaya IP Phones.
Thanks again for the replies.
