AVAYA Definity Network Administration (DNA)

Hi All,

Question, does anybody ave any experience with DNA (not DSA). I am looking for a program which can make life easier for administering multiple sites with all kinds of Definity equipment (DEF AUDIX, Definity's R5 and higher, Intuity AUDIX & Conversant etc.) DNA is a toll which can do most of it, but maybe there is something better on the market or maybe DNA just doesn' work that well....

My understanding of DNA is that it is an engineering tool rather than an administration one. I believe that it is particularly useful when examining alarms remotely.

For standard administration, I'd suggest DSA. To make DSA more useful, get version 9 and a C-LAN card - Then you can administer the PBX via Ethernet. Obviously cheaper and faster, the speed adding to usability, DSA being able to export and import.

That was only a minor point, M., and relates to off-site adminisration over a corporate WAN as opposed to constant dial in over analogue lines.

Where an org. has only 2 voice engineers for the whole of Europe, the cost of being constantly connected to remote PABXes can be significant.

Whereas when connecting via the WAN ...

Agreed, the costs of implementing version 9 and the C-LAN are significant but then again no Avaya product is "cheap" -DNA included.

Hi,

Personaly I would steer well clear of DNA. It's actually designed for when there are more engineers than NETCONs allow. All the information is sent to the server and then uploaded to the switch later. It is a right royal pain in the arse though (technical term) and as such, even Avaya have withdrawn support for it. I personally would stick to DSA/Procomm. You can do most from within DSA - Intuities, Interchanges and Conversant over IP, leaving a data mod/modem for the switch (which can also be over IP in R9). This is how I do it and can sustain multiple connections because most of them are IP.
