Hi there,

we have asked our supplier to reduce our ISDN channels from 40 to 20.
This was actioned last night by BT.

We came into work this morning and now we can receive calls, however we cannot make outgoing calls. We just get an off-tone engaged signal.

I reported this to our supplier 4 hours ago, who said that BT haven't marked the job as finished yet, and more-than-likely an issue with them.
They said if it is still like it when BT sign off the job, that I will probably have to reset the ISDN (disconnect from phone system for 10 seconds, then reconnect).
Then if it is still like, restart the phone system.

BT still haven't signed off the job, we still can't make outgoing calls - so they suggested I "reset the ISDN" as described above. I've done this, but we're still have the same problem of no outgoing calls.

Is the supplier over-looking that the phone system may need to be told that there are now only 20 channels, and not 40?
As I say, receiving calls is fine - just not making them.

Shall I restart the phone system?

About 3 years ago, we went from 60 ISDN channels to 40 - we didn't have to make any changes or restarts when that happened.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Rule #1: don't trust the phone company.

Were your circuits FAS or NFAS? If you were to status the signaling group, would you stat 1 sig group that included both ISDN lines, or would you have two sig groups, one for each? Do you have a separate trunk group for each as well, or a single trunk group for the 60/40/20 channels? Depending where they are in whatever stage of your order, anything's possible. Hound them.

Last time I added an ISDN line, I made sure the carrier said provisioning was complete and it was ready to put into service. A 2nd call revealed they forgot to turn up the circuit. The third call revealed they forgot to turn up the channels on the circuit they forgot to turn up.

But, they programmed the channels in the CO, so hey - they did their job :)
