I see that the base stations support GAP the normal DECT standard.

Alot of the brands I have worked with in the past have enabled you to log in generic handsets via tracking the seriel number in a monitor trace.

My question is the Avaya IP Dect is it locked down avaya handsets only?

Thanks

No not locked
I succefully added Siemens gigaset dect phones and Functell FC1 also
So the Tenovis D3 (Avaya and uses Functell) will also work

If the phone works on GAP then it is possible to connect it

ps long time ago :)
Do you have your ACS already ?

So would some thing like a BT handset work?
How would I source the wireless number of the handset

You need make the extension in your RFP
Turn on allow registration and probably the phone asks for the park code

No a BT handset would not work, that is for use in the home and so will not be GAP compliant, it will have no IPEI or IPUI number at all.

If you have a option for registering the phone to a DECT basestation then it may be possible.
If you cannot see the IPEI number of the handset then you need to do the following:
create a extension type GAP with the IPEI 00000 0000000 0
Enable the DECT monitor in the ADMM
Start DECTNetmonitor1.exe tool and from the "View"menu enable only "FP/PP Events".
Register the handset ( it will fail ) but in the DECTNetmonitor tool you will see a message like this:
FDD14.11.08T16.49.50PP000FP00I001BE3C0E9
The value next to the I represents the hexadecimal value of the IPEI number, this must be converted to the decimal value.
Therefore you need a program called "ipeiConv.exe", you can find it here:
Once you have the decimal value paste and copy it to the ADMM manager for that extension and re-register the phone, now it will be successfull.
Make sure the phone type in ADMM is set to GAP compatible otherwise strange behaviour will happen after a few days!

It is a BT Dect handset.

So? I assume BT do not produce their own handsets and the most DECT handsets are GAP compatible, it is worth trying.
If there is no option in the phone to register or un-register the phone to/from a basestation then the phone is defintely not GAP compatible.

Is it from a BT DECT system or just one you would buy from a catalogue shop or ASDA for the house with the built in answermachine? DECT just means it's digital over the air not analogue like the old walkabout phones it doesn't mean it's universally connectable to every other DECT device/system. What's the model number?

Many BT Dects are GAP compatible

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
