We recently replaced old Index DT5's with 5410 handsets and have a few issues I am hoping to resolve.

Does it support visual voicemail as the DT phone did.
Can it show which mailbox contains voicemail for example when you are a member of groups with voicemail activated. At present the mwi glows but no idea which mailbox.
Can the phone show missed calls on the first screen without having to hunt through menu's

I know the above could be resolved using call manager but the whole point in buying these phones was to have the functions available on the phone especially in areas that have no pc's.

Visual Voice: No this is a DT/20XX specific function (& will be sadly missed)

Mailbox indication: See above....

Missed Calls: I you should be able to set this mode of operation from programming menu of the phone but I cannot test at present.

The 5410 is from a new improved range phone... and therefore doesn't do any of those things you mentioned. Quality of product doesn't always translate into quality usability.

Is this the case with older phones that connect to the DS unit also?

The 54xx series are better for the following reasons.

You can allow or not allow DND, grouping, call recording, button programming, forwarding, time & date (this bites actually) etc

It actually has a transfer & conference button!

Headset socket and button, tilt bracket

The quality of build is 10 fold (no one does it better than china), the speaker phone is top notch and no more paper labels... oh and 48 personal speed dials. did i forget anything ?

They take longer to install and customize though.

As for voicemail, there has never been a better time to upsell phone manager pro (and take away all of your new found control)

jesterock,

Except for the tilt bracket and 48 speed dials those are all features that you'll find on older style 4400 and 6500 series phones.

The 5410, 5420, 2410, 2420, 4620, 4630 whatever are a travesty of poor user design when compare to true context sensitive display phones.

When you press the big Messages button on your nice new phone, does the display switch to showing you any useful information about the mailboxes you look after or the message handling controls available to you.

Why is a big Transfer button so great. Because when you answer a call, you don't get a context sensitive here's one of the options you can do with this call Transfer option on the display.

As I said, buidl quality and useability are separate issues.

Personlay I prefer the 20xx serises phones but this is probably because i have known them longer.

In reality Visual Voice is the onlt 20XX feature that I miss on the 54XX series phones although personaly I find they look chunky & ugly (there is no acounting for personal taste)

As a phone I much prefer the 5410 to my old 2050 - just the under use of its display for call handling annoys.

True true sizbut and ipguru, i just have to look at the positives of the 54xx's and just forget the 20xx series handsets.

The transfer button is great because it actually does what it says it does, rather than a hold button that also transfers and conferences. Cutovers & training is a little easier now.

I do miss different coloured LED's though

No comment on the messages button

I've known the good old index handsets for 6 years now, RIP. hehe sorry
