We currently have a CS1000 with mainly 3904's and about 20 x IP2004's. The 2004's only take minimal config and setup quite easily. However we have just received some new Avaya 1140e's and i must be missing a trick as I cannot get it to connect.

We do not use DHCP so the IP is set static and the phones are on the same Vlan as the CS1000. In this case the 1140e is in access mode so no VLAN set on the handset (as i don't need to trunk the switch as no PC will be connected). The first time i got it to succesfully connect it looked liked it connected to the CS1000 TFTP, downloede the firmware and rebooted. When it boots up i enter the TN and off it goes to connect, however Terminal Connect comes up and the screen goes blank, after about 30 seconds it comes back for the TN again. I have plugged in a 2004 in the same switch port and it works fine.
Checked the network diags and all appears to be fine so i am at a bit of a loss.

Any ideas or pointers please ?

Thanks

Hi,

Do you have the latest 1140 firmware installed in the Signaling Server? If your firmware is to old and if your firmware doesn't support the 1140 hardware version the upgrade will fail and the 1140 will stay in a loop. Start - TN - Fimware not equal so downgrade or upgrade - firmware fail - reboot - start etc etc.

If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed... Oh wait, he does...

Looks like the firmware is original on the CS100 :-( (commisioned March 2009). I'll try to hold of the firmware from our provider and upload to the Sig server and see what happens ....

Thanks for the pointer.
