Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a resource that lists fonts that are generally accepted as available on all platforms by default.

There is a particular character from a font set that I'd like to use, but am not sure if everyone will be able to use it (MS/Mac/*nix etc). Worse comes to worse, I can create a small gif to represent the character, but would prefer to use the font type.

Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif,Times New Roman, Times, serif,Courier New, Courier, mono

Verdana and Georgia are my favorites. Both are Microsoft fonts, created especially for on screen readibility.

Anyone who has a Microsoft product installed on their computer automatically gets them.

as in instructor in website design, I recommend the following:

Verdana (supplied with all windows operating systems) Generally the most used on the web

Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Serif and SanSerif

These are all typically included with the MS operating system.

Verdana and Georogia are excellent and are recommended by many if not all typographists for their legibility.
