Hi guys,
Another quick question.
At present all clients are backing up the the primary backup set, which is a NAS server. I'm trying to perform an aux synch copy of the data to a tape library.
When i run this, it will run 50% then stop with an error out of resources.

I think it has to do with the amount of streams set on the NAS server, and library.
We have 100 streams set on the NAS server (which im not sure is correct), and i set 1 stream (As it has only one drive) on the aux copy to the tape library.

I have noticed it whilst the backup is running it uses more than 1 stream while performing the backup.

Do the streams of the NAS server need to match with the aux coopy to the library?

Thanks

DC

Hi

100 streams is far too many mate....bring it down to about 10 and see how you go.

For the Aux copy you can set the Aux Copy to the same amount of streams as the Primary...which in your case wont work as you only have one drive.

A better way is to tick the 'Combine Streams' feature within the Aux Copy which will combine the streams of your job and write it to the same tape.

Hi Birky,
I noticed in the help function of the copy properties if you combine streams it gives you this note at the bottom.

Note that multi-stream backups of the DB2, Microsoft SQL 7, Microsoft SQL 2000, Microsoft SQL 2005, and Sybase agents will not be copied to a copy that combines streams.

Would having 10 streams on the NAS box cause this issue?

Cheers

DC

Create a new SP for your db's as you can't combine streams on db backups

If you are not multi-streaming the DB backups, then combining the streams to 1 for the tape copy is fine - you can disregard that message.
