How do I wire an aux ringer to a bcm 400 4.0, I know there is a port but how do you wire the mini jack?

The device I am connecting to is a tellab 8001

It's a mini-jack port on front of BCM faceplate. The metal is imprinted with AUX. You wire like any mini-jack. Tip goes to the tip, and ring goes to the ring.

Use a Stereo Mini Plug. Tip and Ring are the relay contacts, Sleve is ground. The relay contact has a maximum capacity of 50mA at 40 Volts DC.

Warning: External equipment connected to the auxiliary ringer, page relay, page output, and music-on-hold interfaces must use safety extra low voltage (SELV).
All four interfaces are (SELV) and the external equipment connected to these interfaces must be SELV. If these interfaces are not SELV, you must use external line isolation units (LIU).

Auxiliary ringer jack: The Business Communications Manager uses the auxiliary ringer jack to control the cadence of an auxiliary ringer (customer supplied). You must use this output in a low current, low voltage application only. Do not use this output for switching the auxiliary ringer directly

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Thanks all, I used a stereo plug in the fashion you have stated but it still does not work.

What purpose do you want to use Aux. ringer? To ring on a line or telephone? You need an Aux. ringer to power a speaker or horn. The Aux. port just supplies a contact closure.

To see if it works, turn your tone generator to continuity, clip on to wires coming off mini-jack. When you dial the ext. or line, the red light should come on. If not, your wiring is bad, or your programming. Most likely, programming.

A 1/8 mono mini plug is what you need. Also you must have a external Aux ringer device or an Amp that provides the ring. Once you have programmed your lines or telephones that you want to ring, this should work.

Just remember, the Aux Ringer is a set of dry-contacts and will only provide a normally-open connection (closed when the Aux Ringer is activated).. This contact will normally connect to an external device that when it see's the relay close, the external device will send audio to some external paging application.

See the TIP earlier about using a continuity tester.. And a mono plug is the easiest, if a stereo plug was to be used, you would need to determine the common and left side of the stereo plug for your contact closure..
