aux port question

Bought buisness and moved BCM switch to new location. Existing site had a connection from aux port on front of switch to user station but we failed to id it. what is aux port on front of switch (after line 1 and before line 2) typically used for?

It is a power fail line access so that you can access Line 1 from a standard analog telephone should the BCM crap out.
