I was using PSP 9 when we had a power failure. When the power came back I opened PSP and got this message: Autosave file is not valid or has been damaged.

Now every time I open PSP I get this message. Does anyone know how to fix it? Is there a file I need to delete or something?

Thank you for any help you can give me. :)

I'm not familiar with this problem but you might be able to fix it by resetting the preferences as the power failure might have caused the program's registry to become corrupt.

I believe that in PSP 9 it is already under File - Preferences - Reset Preferences; if not, hit Ctrl + Alt when the program is about to start - if you hit the keys at the right moment (as soon as you click the program's icon to start it) you'll get a box asking if you want to delete the registry settings.

-- In case you need to follow the Ctrl + Alt method, save your workspace (if you haven't yet) because all your settings will be lost.

Thank you so much, jconingham! You pointed me in the right direction. I decide to check under Autosave in PSP Help. And lo & behold ... look what I found:

Note: To find out where Paint Shop Pro saves the autosaved files, select File > Preferences > File Locations and select the Undo/Temporary Files folder from the File Type list.

So I went to my temp directory & deleted all the files in there today. Had a a lot of files, haven't deleted them in a while. :-D Then I opened PSP and the message didn't come up!

Thanks again for you help. I would never have found the answer without it. Maybe my answer will help someone else some time.

Oops, so sorry I skipped a step in my explanation. :~/

After I found the note under Autosave in Help, I went to PSP and checked the file location for Undo/Temporary Files folder. I found it was in My Documents \ Temp folder. So THEN i went & deleted all the files.

Sorry about that!

I'm happy I was able to help somehow - you really found your way around ;)
