My girlfriends PC is having an interesting (though annoying) problem.
Normally when you install a CD (as you know) windows autorun will execute something on the CD (as defined in the autorun.inf file or something) so that you don't have to manually find and doubleclick the appropriate executable (normally setup.exe) on the CD.
With my girlfriends computer however, the autorun seems to be executing over and over again, as it if were a command in an infinite loop or as if you were sitting there doubleclicking setup.exe over and over again, continuously running instances of the setup.exe.
This has made it impossible to install anything on her computer from a CD, I don't want to have to disable autorun. While she is a competent computer user, she isn't very savvy as to how they work and thus isn't aware of what she has done with it in the recent past, thus making troubleshooting this problem very difficult (which is latin for impossible).
I've spent the last 35 minutes on google trying in vain to find a mention of this problem elseware, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone here could give me the solution, or point me in a direction that might lead to the solution. Again, since she isn't particularly savvy, reloading the OS isn't an appealing solution since it is impossible to tell if we will have backed up absolutely everything she will need. In the end you do what you gotta do, but I'm hoping someone will have a real solution for me before we go to those measures.
Thanks in advance,
- John
