I was told by a programmer that you can automatically transfer the AutoNumber data from the parent table field to appear in a Number data type of the related table.

Can any body explain how you can do this without recourse to VBA. I was told it is very easy, but was never shown. Can you help, please?

One simple way, which is fairly typical, and requires no programming is where you have a subform located on a main form, and linked to the main form via the LinkMasterFields, LinkChildFields properties of the subform.

In this case, if the LinkMasterFields is the single control which is bound to the Autonumber field associated with the Master form's recordsource, then the subform's associated numeric field will inherit its value when you create records in the subform.

Phew ... now I do hope that you can make sense of the above.

Thanks Steve,

I'll have a go at this and see if I can conquer.
