How can I autonumber rows?

i.e. A6:A(N)

In the first cell of the range that you want to number, type =ROW(A1).

25061959 really means
=ROW(A6)-5

BTW, what is suggested above row(A1) will work too.

Okay =ROW(A1) works for the first record. But i want the next row numbered as I access it.

I have left my brain at home today; please explain a little more. Actually I mean please explain fully what you are trying to do. Doing this stuff in bits and pieces wastes time.

You need VBA Code to do that. Check out the Worksheet_Change event.

Can I just ask why ?

You have row numbers already in excel.......

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

In the first cell of the range that you want to number, type =ROW(A1). - After that drag with handle down the column so the next one becomes 2 and so on.

Also use your Help as it explains this.

Good luck.
