Autonumber Opportunity

I have been searching for a solution to populate one of the opportunity user fields (in this case field 5) with a next number (an auto incrementing number). I've seen that there is an addin from Exponenciel "Autonumber for Sage ACT". Is this my best option? Does anyone have any experience in using this?
(Act! 2010 Version: 12.1.181.0, Hot Fix 1
6 Users - 2 with remote databases - sync to main)
