hi

Got to import or paste some data into a new Access database. One of the field in the new database is autoNumber, how should this field be in the external data i prepared for pasting or importing?

Should i set the field in Access to number first and then change to autonumber after importing?

thanks

Hi

Depends if you need to have a 'preset' number in the Autonumber field.

If you do not, just import your data without the autonumber field, and Access will do its thing and populate it for you.

If you must have a preset value, maybe you need to think about if it SHOULD be an autonumber field, but I believe (have not tried this) if you input data to be imported, includes a value for the Autonumber field Access will use it when populating the receiving table.

Hope this helps
