Hi there, after we reinstall the OS on the first disk we managed to retrieved the file system on the second disk. But when we do a reboot the file system is not automount. I've checked the file /etc/fstab and the file system is there, On the /etc/mtab the filesystem name is not present?

what i did is edit the file /etc/mtab and add the filesystem. and mount again the filesystem.

did my procedures is correct. what are the possible procdures i need to configure on the system to automount he filesystem..

thanks..

The mtab file is for the system to keep track of what filesystems are currently mounted. You really should not change it manually.

There can many reasons why you second HDD won't mount automatically at boot. Most of the time its has to do with wrong options or even volume names.

Do you mount by device or by name? What filesystem is your seconf HDD? I had a case where if I didn't compile reiserfs directly into the kernel, my drive couldn't mount because the the fs module couldn't load automatically.

actually i'm new with linux. before i handle aix. i have just read it on one of the forum that is why i edited it.

BTW worst scenario is that we are going to recreate the filesystem.can you provide me a step by step procedure for creating the filesystem..starting from fdisk..

tnx in advance..
