Automating Updates to Defaults in Parameters?

Hi All-

I have many reports, where the user selects an agency name from a popup. where default agency names have been pre-set at report creation. The parameter is set to display the agencyName field in the agency table {agency.agencyname}.

This worked fairly well when I had five reports and the number of agencies in the agency table remained fairly static.

Now that I have 50+ reports, it is getting out of hand to reset the defaults, every time an agency is added for each of the reports.

Is there an alternative way of handling this. I am using CR 9.0.

This is turning into an administrative nightmare. Is there any way to redo the reports so the popup is dynamically updates without manual intervention, whenever an agency is added?

Thanks,

Jay

Dynamic parameters are supposedly coming in CR 11. Until then, your options are:
a) keep doing it manually
b) create your own application, and load the parameter values at runtime
c) use a third-party report viewer that has this functionality... you can find a list of some options here: (DataLink Viewer from Millet Software is the first that comes to mind).

Any idea when V 11 will be out?

Will it support multi-level parameters?

Thanks,

Jay

It's also supposed to support cascading parameters (if that's what you mean by 'multi-level'). I think its release was originally slated for the end of this year, but obviously, it must have been pushed back.

You not limited to selecting an option from the drop-down list.
You can select an existing option and, when it it highlighted, type in a different one which is not in the list.
It's not ideal, but at least you won't have to recompile the report if you are willing to do this.
