I was wondering if there is a way to automatically export the private
key on a 2000 client. In a situation where you are not in a domain if
you client machine becomes unbootable how do you get back EFS'ed files?
I realise how insecure this sounds but for laptop users I want to run a
script when they log in
cipher /E /A /s:c:\DATA\%username%
cipher /E /A /s:c:\Docume~1\%username%\mydocu~1
cipher /E /A /s:c:\Docume~1\%username%\desktop
This works fine and is for the sole purpose of stopping a stolen laptop
drive being used as a secondary and recovering the data. If during
login I can get the machine to export its key somewhere on the network I
could use it to recover OS's that will not boot. If I was in a domain
this would be no problem buy the systems are stand alone from the
windows point of view.
I haven't found any tools that can do this (for good reasons I admit)
but if there is one or you have another idea please clue me in.
Thanks
