automatically put line on hold?

We've got a customer who switched over from an old Nortel system to PARTNER ACS R7. One feature he's upset about not having is this: when on line 1, he'd like to be able to select line 2 (for a new call) and automatically have line 1 put on hold. Currently, when he selects line 2, the call on line 1 is dropped.

I doubt this can be done, but thought I'd put it out there for any creative workarounds.
