Hi all

Is it possible (and how) to automatically email a group of people on the first day of every month?

TIA

Cliff

There's not enough information in your post.

1. It's possible to email a distribution group just as easily as it is to email an individual.

2. Do you already have the capability to automatically email an individual on the first day of the month?

3. Where does the content of the email come from?

Basic answer would be yes, you can do it. If the content of the message is able to be static or pulled from a datase or some other event the easiest way to do it is to use CDO to send the email via a vbscript and scheduled event. That way it would not be dependent on having an email client software package such as Outlook.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks Markdmac

Content of the message is static.

Couple of questions arise from your post...
What is CDO and how would one implement your suggestion?

If the information is static, you have several options.

1. Create an RFC822 format message and drop in in the pickup folder on a server rumming IIS with the smtp service.

2. Use a command line email utility, blat comes to mind.

3. Use Outlook express to send a preformatted email form the command line:
4. Use scripting and the CDO objects to create and send an email.

Use the scheduler to schedule any of the above methods to run on the first day of the month.

Do a search on the Windows 2003 forum and you should find a sample of code I created that emails me when a server reboots. The script will do exactly what you are asking.

I am working remotrely will limited connectivity, otherwise would give you a link. Search for NotifyReboot.vbs.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
