Automatically Creating Opportunities on Import?

An interesting question arose today, for which I have no answer.

We add leads in large numbers to our database, which are then picked by salespersons as they need new leads. It is clear that, as they make calls, they should track the sales stage in the Opportunity tag.

The question posed was, "How do we know who hasn't been called at all?" Put another way, how can we identify leads for whom no opportunity has been created?

If, upon import of the leads, a sales opportunity with sales stage "New Opportunity" could be created, this would become fairly straightforward. Is there a way to do this?

Or, is there a better way to filter or otherwise identify leads that have not been contacted at all?

I can't imagine that we're the only guys trying to deal with this...any help appreciated. :)

Hello petitune,
When you import/data entry the new contacts do you have the ID/Status field defaulted to "Prospect"? You could then do a lookup for all prospects with a "Create Date" greater that whatever date you need.

Another way would be to do a lookup on "Edit Date" field (this would show the last time the contact was edited), "Call Completed" (The last time a completed call was cleared), "Call Left Message" (The last time a message was left with a contact). These are "System" fields that are usually found on the "Status" tab. They are automatically updated when a User edits a Contact or when an Activity is cleared.

I think there might be some 3rd party products that might help. Check out
Regards,
Michael
