Automatic update log?

Is there an automatic update log on the pc side that would show that automatic update is indeed checking for updates every day at the time I set (2:00 am)? The GDI detection tool showed up when I ran Windows Update, but never did download & install automatically on my pc.

Ah-ha. I hadn't had an automatic update since July 31st. I stopped and started the Automatic Update service and we'll see what happens tomorrow morning. Will it show an automatic update event only if there's an update? I need to know whether it is actually checking for updates every day.

Also check out any error message that may be logged in the Windows Update.log in your Windows folder.

I hope you are not saying that you haven't updated your machine since July?

No, I've done 5 updates manually from the Windows Update site myself since July. I'm just wondering why none of them have automatically downloaded and installed. This has only been an issue since I installed SP2. The windowsupdate.log is hard to understand but it looks like it started to check at 2:00 am, then changed the time to check to 6:00 am and it looks like it was successful then and 0 updates were detected.

Do you have any errors mentioned in the log similar but not necessary identical to the sort of errors that are discussed in this thread?
