We have BAB 9.0 (2020) running on WIN2000 server combined with 36 slot backup robot through SCSI.

Regarding cleaning cartridges, i recently found out a statement in a document that does not really make sense:

"If a cleaning cartridge is in one of the slots, check the Tape cleaning slot installed box and type in the storage slot number where the cleaning cartridge is stored."

AND THEN:

"Verify that Automatic tape cleaning IS NOT checked."

Why is this, i always use "Automatic tape cleaning" on HP, could this cause some unexpected behaviour and what could be the main reason behind such statement?

Kind regards KaJuHe

The auto cleaning is to automatically clean the drive after X number of hours of usage. Tape drives that support the HP Tape Alert standard such as DLT drives will notify the application to load the cleaning tape when needed. So for this to work ARCserve has know which slot has the cleaning tape.

Well seeing as the document refers to AS6.61 it's highly unlikely it will apply to v9.

The background to this document is that in these old versions, if hardware cleaning was enabled ARCserve could not handle this and if it occured during a backup/restore/etc would report SCSI errors unless a reg hack was enabled:
