Hi all

wondering if someone can give me some pointers. I am looking to write a script that will automatically shut down a remote pc after it has been logged off for a set amount of time (eg half an hour). Now I am presuming that I will have to install this on something like the domain controller server so that it can check against AD/WMI etc, but really at a loss as to where to start. Has anyone else attempted something similar? I know the code to shut down the pc - I just need the mechanism of querying something (preferably not the actual machine itself to help minimise network traffic) to see if a machine is logged off. Alternatively is there a way of doing this with Group Policy or similar? All our machines run Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

Cheers

Maybe something like passing the machine name as an argument to a remote script/exe as it logs off? Hadn't considered it but it seems a good angle. I'll have a look into it, unless anyone can think of any cons to this approach or something else?

Thanks very much.
