automatic section renumbering in ID CS or CS2

we've been using framemaker for layout of technical and scientific documents and we make extensive use of the paragraph/section renumbering style feature in framemaker. unfortunately, adobe has discontinued framemaker for the mac environment so we are consider switching to indesign. does anyone know anything about how we could get this feature in indesign--whether as a plugin, a script, XML or whatever?
