We have several companies within the building. Visitors who come in the main entrance, pick up the telephone and it automatically calls our Admin Hunt group. They then manually put them through to the correct company.

Can this be automated? Ideally I want the visitor to pick the phone up and hear a message which asks them to press 1, 2 etc.

I thought about getting it to ring a virtual handset which would go through to VM, but this would take 6 seconds before this would kick in which is to long, I need it to be instant.

Call Baring is currently on and we have VM Pro.

Thanks,
Matt

So for the attendant, you are using the embedded card then?

you could automate it, pick up handset with a dial short code

?D / Dial / <VU Extn>

This dials a VU with a forward unconditional to a SC that dials your AA.

Simples.

No I don't have an embedded card.

I need the handset on pickup to go straight to an auto attendant.

Whats VU and SC? and where do I setup an Auto Attendant?

Sorry, not simple for me :)

As you have voicemail pro, you'll build the attendant in there.

Then create a VU (virtual user), and forward that user to a SC (shortcode) that dials the AA.

fo shizzle ma nizzle.

Excellent, I'll have a play and see what happens :S

Thanks for the advice, until now, I didn't actually think of the Auto Attendant!

If you see three new posts called:
How do I create a Virtual User
How Do I forward to a Short code
How to dial an Auto Attendant

Then that will be me :p

Cheers,

People love there abbreviations on these forums! Whats BP

Major thick day for me

It's an acronym not an abbreviation :)

Stands for Business Partner, usually the company who installed the system and/or you pay for maintenance cover and programming etc :)

ah no way, I even asked one of the Admin girls here if Abbreviation was right and she said yes!

You wouldn't believe this, but it was actually me who installed the System and maintain it!

We only have a breakdown support contract. Done / Doing the rest myself! Learning a lot though. :)

Do not to don't is an abbreviation
Technically BP is an initialism, but most would say acronym.

Most BP's do small programming changes like this for free as part of the breakdown contract, the one you use must be tight :)

Sorry - I read you didnt have VM Pro - hence assuming you would use the embedded

same setup then just point it to a VM node.

I just tested this and it works plus skips the virtual user and has no ring

Im too old skool Kevin ;-)

but you are totally right, no real need for a VU on later switch versions when doing these kind of things.

just make sure there is no SIP involved, cause Ill get the call anyway, so it will cost you £399.99 + a few beers :)

I pop out for 20 mins to pick something up, and this is what I come back to! lol

I brought the Kit myself! and the handsets and modules from various places.

Our BP probably would do this for free, but If I do it myself / ask you guess how, I learn more! :)

there no SIP, and I can't pay cash, so beers it will have to be!

I'm doing this now, so I'll let you know

HA! It worked! thanks guys

Before March, I knew nothing about phone systems, barely new how to use my mobile phone!

Although I'm no expert, I'm learning lots about the Avaya, and when something like this works, its exciting!

So cheers :D

Beers for everyone!
