Greetings!

Can the Environ("Username") syntax be used to automatically log a user into a secured database?

Ideally I would like to disable the Logon Dialog Box that Access automatically displays when you secure a database and use the Environ("Username") to log the user into the database.

Is this feasible? If so, how?

Please let me know your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks in advance!

If you're referring to setting a Database password, then NO I don't want to password protect it.

I plan to setup my network users in Access security with the SAME username and password they use to access the Network in general.

Ideally, I want the database to:
1. Obtain or "Read" my user's network username AND password
2. Use this information to log them onto the Database
3. If the user does not exist, reject entry to the database

Are you using an .mdw (security file)? If so I can get you as far as the network logon showing up in the ID box but they will have to enter the password. Also, you can attach the .mdw file to that specific mdb ONLY.

Yep,

I'm using a .MDW security file.

I'm curious how to attach the .MDW file to my specific .MDB file.

Also I'd really really appreciate you showing me how to get their Netware login to show up in the logon box.

Thanks alot

To join a security file to a specific mdw you need to create a shortcut to the mdb. In the shortcut put the following code in the "Target" Box.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\name of the Access program.mdb" /wrkgrp "C:\name of the security file.mdw"

There are three parts to this, each part is in "'s
The first part is the path of the MSACCESS.EXE
The second is the path to the mdb
The third is "/wrkgrp " and the path to the mdw file.

You want the AccessAdministrator to be joined to the default System.mdw file still.
If someone tries to open this mdb without using the shortcut, it will automatically log them on as "admin" from the default System.mdw

Try that and let me know if you need any help.

Ok,

Wasn't sure about what you meant. Now that you've explained it to me, I've already done this with one exception.

I have disabled the rights for the default Admins and User groups in Access and created 2 new groups. That way anyone wishing to access the database will have to use the .MDW file to gain rights to the database objects.

With regards to what you said earlier...how do I place their network username in the ID for the logon box?

Thanks again in advance
