Can anyone tell me how to close the space between automatically created footnotes in the footer space, I want single spacing... I have tried all ways to do this including the footnote options dialog box and the toolbar at the top of the screen but with no success. They remain with a substantial space between each entry. Thank-you...

Did you assign a paragraph style to the footnote formatting section of the footnote options dialog? That's where the leading will set for the footnote text.

Thank-you for your suggestion but I have set the paragraph style in the dialog box and also the "Space between Footnotes" at 0mm to no avail. The leading is fine within one reference but the gap remains between each footnote entry... The book I am formatting has many footnotes and I am reluctant to go down the route of manually placing each reference, since I have done this in the past with CS1...

...verify that your footnote options > layout > first baseline isn't having an effect...

Thanks for your advice, Andrew, which has helped me to nearly solve completely the problem. At the expense of not applying (i.e. unticking) the "Rule above" feature and setting the "First baseline" to Fixed and 1mm (and minimum space before the first footnote at 5mm) I can get the footnotes looking like I want them. The loss of the automatic separating line is something I'll have to put up with but I can insert one manually when the footnotes appear...

...sounds to me there are possibly carriage returns between your footnotes (maybe more than one between each?) with the settings you are having to use. I always keep the first baseline set to leading whenever possible...

...hope all goes well anyway...
