We plan to install shortly an IPO 412, and we are trying to understand how we could configure the system to meet our requirements.

We would like callers to send faxes to our users at the same extension used for the normal phone calls. The system should detect the fax tone and send the fax to the mailbox of the user to whom the extension belongs. If the call is not a fax call the phone associated with the extension called should ring.

We understand that this is possible using VM Pro, but we would like to have suggestions on the best strategy to implement it. It is clear how to route the call via VM Pro to a fax server, that will in turn send the fax to the user mailbox via email. What we don't understand is how to route a non-fax call to the appropriate extension. The only solution we found is to create a specific module in VM Pro for each user. Is there a smarter way to do it? Is there in VM Pro a DID variable that we can use to transfer the call to extension specified by the caller?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The VM Pro fax detection only works once the call is answered by a VM Mailbox.

It is not intended to cope with the situation you describe (users & fax all on the same DDI). It basicaly ensurs that if a user recieves a fax onhis ddi in error that goes to VM, the fax will get diverted to a suitable location.

The VM can route calls based on recieved ddi but I would suges you rething your aproach & give each user a seperate fax number.

Or go with a low-tech solution - put an autodial button to the fax server hunt group on each phone, and tell your users if they answer a call and hear CNG tone to hit transfer 'the button' transfer. If they don't answer and it hits their mailbox it will get transfered automatically.

You could use analog ports combined with fax/modem/voice detectors , it would raise your costs , but makes your wishes come true (you need twice as much analoge ports as you have faxes , and some modem/fax/voice splitters a E 120,- )

Version 3.0 will support a thirth party Fax Server in order to give each user a single number for voice and faxes.
Release date is May 2005 and no delays this time.
3.0.29 is doing very well in the field trials.

Youre right, March 21 it will be but there will be a new release of 2.1 also.
Wich would you pick, a stable 2.1 or a new 3.0?

definately a stable 2.1 - especially if it comes with a stable CCC and MMM... *grin*
