Merlinman:

What is the deal with the way Merlin Legend's (and I'm guessing Magix?) handle line privacy?

Even the old Partner's have automatic line privacy, but it looks like I have to waste a button on a phone with the "Privacy" feature to be able to keep calls confidential.

And to top it off, that button is a toggle, so some users might turn it off and not realize what they had done.

Please advise - are there ANY other ways to make privacy work, without needing a button/toggle - this makes me look really stupid, since most customers are accustomed to their old phone systems just "automatically" granting them the privacy they need.

The feature is #31 I believe. You'll see Privacy on come on the display.

Killbox was right (as usual).

However, you do not need to waste a button.

Touching FEATURE and then dialing 31 will toggle it on.

Touching FEATURE and then dialing *31 will toggle it off.

Thanks merlinman.

By the way, the # sign is the same as Feature groundwire, incase you're using 4400 phones.

When you use this feature method, does that programming last indefinately?

Is it included in a system backup? Will it be reset when you power cycle the phone system?

I guess I'll add this to my list of things to do on each phone, along with a *14 since it doesn't come across on a station copy.

Yup, you'll have to set that again as well.

Actually, once privacy is set, POWER OFF does not toggle it.

It is on, more or less forever.

I do not think it survives a Restore after a Back Up, but if the system is not erased, privacy stays on.

Power down and back up, IT IS STILL ON.

No, it is not on a LINE basis, and NO, it is not like PARTNER, but it does work quite well.

As far as your *14, and other things (Voice announce on IDLE), Darn it, you have to program that on a PER EXTENSION basis.

However, the MACRO feature of WinSpm makes that SO NICE....

What used to take so many keystrokes to implement, now only takes so very few....

Sorry, I didn't specify! It doesn't with stand the restore. You'll have to do them all over again.
