Hi,

I am looking for an automatic discovery tool (based on SNMP) to collect the Mac address for each device in the network.
The objective is to automatically track the movement of any device in the network.
i.e. Track the movement of printers from one layer 2 switch to another layer 2 switch.

Thanks,

Hi!

How good are you at programming? :)

You would have to know the OID for the switch model you have that would give you the bridge table for each port. You could then store that info and then each time you run your tool, compare the current reading to the historical reading.

For an example, check out the cammer script that Tobi wrote. It will give you the IP address of devices on switch ports. It works with Cisco switches running Cat OS pretty well.

Good luck!

Patrick
